February, 2011 - The Pilot Club of Denham Springs Receives Grant to Support Students with Disabilities

The Pilot Club of Denham Springs, Louisiana received an $817.00 matching grant from the Pilot International Foundation to support high school students with brain-related disorders/significant disabilities in Livingston Parish as they learn independent life skills in the school district’s Life Skills Apartment. The Life Skills Apartment, located on the campus of Denham Springs High School, is used by classes for students with significant disabilities at ten high schools in the district. In continuing its focus of assisting residents in the community with brain-related disorders and/or developmental disabilities, the Pilot Club of Denham Springs used grant funds to purchase items  for the apartment, which will enable students to learn life skills in a natural setting, such as meal planning and cooking, general house-keeping, laundering, grooming, and recreation. Items included small appliances, linens, furniture, bedding, Wii games for leisure and physical education time, and gift cards to be used to purchase consumables such as craft, cooking, and laundry items.

The Pilot International Foundation is the charitable arm of Pilot International, a global organization of approximately 25,000 adult and youth members who are working together to improve the quality of life in local communities and throughout the world. Pilot's service focus is helping people affected by brain disorders and disabilities through volunteer activities, projects and fundraisers.
