Our Foundation

Pilot International was organized in Macon, Georgia in October 1921, as a not-for-profit, classified, service organization for business and professional women by a group of 40 women who felt the time had come for women to demonstrate their abilities in all areas of life, and to prove they could make a difference in community affairs. This group of forward-looking women adopted the name PILOT INTERNATIONAL at the time they were issued a charter. Within the first several months, Pilot Clubs had been organized in Alabama and Georgia. These ladies were on their way to their dream - an international organization.

The name PILOT was taken from the river boat captains that were present at the time and was adopted to designate LEADER AND GUIDE. The emblem was a replica of the pilot wheel on the boats. The motto chosen was TRUE COURSE EVER. Colors of GREEN AND GOLD were adopted - green to show vitality and gold to show sincerity.

The Pilot Club of Denham Springs was organized by the Pilot Club of Baton Rouge in 1965, with twenty-one charter members. The Pilot Club of Denham Springs gained a reputation for organizing, funding, and completing many short-term projects to improve the quality of life for people in our community. Our emphasis is on the needs of Denham Springs, and our efforts are expended in meeting as many of these needs as possible. We have worked in areas of safety and health, education, services to youth and senior citizens and many others.
