In 2001, Pilot International launched its signature project, BrainMinders™, a public service campaign aimed at increasing awareness of brain injuries and how to prevent them. Funded by a gift from the estate of Callye Neese, the program uses a variety of methods to reach different age groups. The BrainMinder Buddies™ program, designed for children ages four to six, teaches the importance of safety through engaging puppet shows. A separate safety program for seven- to nine-year-olds was introduced in 2003, and an educational program about the teenage brain was added in 2006 for Anchor Club members to present to pre-teens and younger teens. These programs have reached an estimated 500,000 children around the world.
The Pilot Club of Denham Springs takes this mission to our community, presenting these shows annually at events like National Night Out and the Denham Springs/Walker Library. The club's dedication is a long-standing tradition. A community member's kindness even helped it flourish: at a 2006 puppet show, a kind janitor named John Kellogg noticed the club didn't have a puppet theater. He then volunteered his time to build one for them, helping ensure the message of brain safety could be shared with countless children in our community.
The Pilot Club of Denham Springs is a proud supporter of Denham Springs High School Project Graduation, a community-led initiative that gives graduating seniors a safe, substance-free way to celebrate.
In alignment with our commitment to brain safety, this all-night event provides a secure and fun environment, offering a healthy alternative to traditional, and often risky, graduation parties. It’s an entirely volunteer-run effort, funded by community donations and fundraisers, and a powerful way for our community to show how much we care about the safety and well-being of our graduates. The purpose is to ensure that all seniors, regardless of their faith or school, can celebrate together in a secure environment. The Pilot Club believes in the mission of Project Graduation and is dedicated to helping create a memorable and safe night for all seniors.
The Pilot Club of Denham Springs is dedicated to brain health, and we know that vision is a critical part of a healthy brain. Your eyes are the primary pathway through which your brain receives information about the world. Maintaining good vision is crucial for supporting cognitive functions and overall brain health.
That's why we're proud to support the Denham Springs Lions Club and the Lions Recycle for Sight program. This powerful initiative collects used eyeglasses from communities worldwide. Together, we help gather glasses that are sorted, cleaned, and prepared for optical missions around the globe. These glasses are then given to millions of people in low- and middle-income countries who lack access to basic eye care.
By helping people see clearly, we're not just improving their quality of life—we're also helping them access education and employment, which is a powerful way to support brain health for people everywhere.
